In his book Stress Management for Lawyers: How to Increase Personal & Professional Satisfaction in the Law, Amiram Elwork, Ph.D. states that lawyer stress is a serious issue with 80% of lawyers reporting high stress, and 20-30% reporting problems with alcohol or drugs.

Lawyers stress results from a variety of factors including time demands, anxiety arising from the complex, detailed nature of the legal profession and the inherent adversarial nature of the legal field.
