Course Description
Completing this program should:
Enhance your understanding of the importance of cultural dimension in effective treatment;
Extend your knowledge of the relationship between cultural transition, cultural evolution, ethnicity, gender, and socioeconomic and regional background; and
Increase your clinical skills in the treatment of adolescents and their families.
It is important that mental health practitioners acknowledge and value cultural diversity and the importance of the cultural dimension in effective treatment. This program discusses the meaning of cultural values and treatment issues, including the neglected dimension of the cultural background of the therapist. The course illustrates the application of the multidimensional cultural approach in the case of a rebellious Mexican-American teenager.
