Course Description
Thousands of aircraft take to the skies every day. Whether it be a 747 or a single-engine Cessna, aircraft are flying over your jurisdiction. If one goes down, are you ready to manage the incident? In this edition of American Heat, we'll highlight two departments who discover the realities of Aviation Incident Response (A.I.R). We'll be taking you to the place where aviation got its start, North Carolina. Over the last four decades the Charlotte Fire Department would face a number of major aircraft crashes. Youll see how this department has evolved in aircraft emergency management as they recount their most recent fatal airplane crash on January 8, 2003. Then, a North Carolina volunteer department faces a low-impact crash requiring a tricky rescue. This incident is a great example of how familiarity with area emergency resources can be a lifesaver.
