Course Description
This course covers the basic principles of BGP routing. It examines the uses and limitations of BGP, how BGP route processing works, and basic methods for configuring, monitoring and troubleshooting BGP. The use of filtering techniques to influence route selection is also explored. This includes determining when policy controls are needed, configuring AS-path filters, prefix-list filters, and how to implement these filter changes using soft reconfiguration and route refresh. Lastly, the use of BGP attributes to influence route selection is explored. This includes weight, local preference, MED, and AS-path prepending. The use of communities and route maps is also discussed.
