Course Description
Completing this program should:
Enhance your understanding of behavioral and cognitive theories and therapies;
Extend your knowledge of the use of CBT in the treatment of substance abuse; and
Increase your clinical practice skills in this area.
Brief interventions and therapies have become increasingly important modalities in the treatment of substance abuse. An approach that has gained widespread application in the treatment of substance abuse is cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT).
This program examines behavioral and cognitive therapies and focuses specifically on the cognitive-behavioral model. The material discusses how to help clients recognize situations in which they are likely to use, find ways of avoiding those situations, and cope more effectively with situations, feelings, and behaviors related to their substance abuse.
