Course Description
This study reports on work undertaken by the University of Teesside to make the OLF�s course in Open and Distance Learning, Multi-PALIO, available for use online. The objective of the project was not simply to disseminate the paper version of the course electronically. Rather it was to create a version of the product that could be used entirely online. In order to meet that goal it was necessary to create a means of converting the text to a format that was comfortably readable onscreen and, as it turned out, that would meet the requirements of the SENDA regulations that came into force in September 2002.
This study reports on the strategies and guidelines that emerged in order to meet these needs and on the use currently being made of the material at the University of Teesside. The study also reflects on the further implications of this work not only for the conversion of other OLF materials, but also for the wider use of academic text in online environments. Finally, the materials converted are available to all members of the OLF and instructions on how to obtain and use them are include here.
