Course Description
This course will provide students with the concepts and technologies of IDSs by examining the differences between using host-based and network-based IDSs, and how each of them can be implemented. Also, this course includes reviewing signature analysis and its goals, how to read log files, the move towards a common database of vulnerabilities and signatures (CVEs), and therefore a standardization of exploits and possible intrusion examples, accompanied by IDS rules to counter such intrusions. We designed the Network Defense and Countermeasures course for the student who is a network administrator responsible for maintaining a wide range of network technologies. To ensure your success, we recommend you first take the Element K course Hardening The Infrastructure or have equivalent knowledge. The SCNP certification is comprised of two exams, Hardening the Infrastructure (HTI), and Network Defense and Countermeasures (NDC). To become SCNP-certified, candidates must pass both of these Level One exams.
