    The History and Development of Indian Head Massage
    On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to:
  • Introduce massage and explain its benefits.
  • Identify three other complementary therapies that compliment massage.
  • Explore the first documented uses of massage within the Indian family unit.
  • Describe what prompted Narendra Mehta to return to India and analyse what first enabled him to teach his techniques.
  • Define touch, detailing its benefits and importance to Narendra.

    Its Causes, Effects and Reduction
    On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to:
  • Identify two main types of stress.
  • Describe a meridian and show the benefits of Indian head massage.
  • Describe the function of a chakra.
  • List 10 signs of stress, identify their type and define cause.

    The Effects of Massage on Various System of our Body
    On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to:
  • Discuss how massage can affect: the circulatory system, the muscular system, the lymphatic system, the respiratory system, and the digestive system.
  • Detail four contra indications for massage, together with their reasons for the THERAPIST and RECIPIENT.
  • Describe what type of massage movement stimulates and what type sedates showing why originality of movements is important.
  • Describe the �connecting� sequence.
  • Define the following techniques: thumb push, pick-up and squeeze, ironing down, and occiput friction.

    Healthy Hair
    On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to:
  • Describe hair grown from foetus to adulthood.
  • Define, in detail, the structure of a hair.
  • Explain the nature and causes of dandruff and discuss five contributing factors to damaging hair.
  • Define the nature and causes of hair loss.
  • Explain the nature and causes of greasy hair and list why shampoo can damage the hair.

    Massage Techniques for Physical and Mental Benefits
    On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to:
  • Describe in detail the following base oils and their therapeutic values: sweet almond oil, groundnut oil, jojoba oil, avocado oil, coconut oil, and grapeseed oil.
  • Identify the ten steps on self-massage.

    Specific Problems and Their Corrections
    On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to:
  • Examine the four elements of a human being detailing both positive and negative aspects.
  • Identify an involuntary muscle and a voluntary muscle, giving examples.
  • Discuss the results of excess tension in the shoulders.
  • Discuss how the eye focuses and explain the causes and correction of eyestrain.
  • Describe the effects of a tension headache and name two types of migraine.

    All students will receive a certificate in the mail on successful completion of their course.

    Prerequisites/Audience There is no experience or previous qualifications required for enrolment on this course. It is available to all students, of all academic backgrounds.
    Requirements/Materials Included This program can be accessed and completed using either PC or Macintosh computers. You'll need an Internet connection of 28Kpbs or higher, and a Web browser. There are no required textbooks.
