Course Description
Upon completion of this course, the participant will:
Have an enhanced understanding of the historical development of brief therapy;
Be familiar with the basic assumptions and unique characteristics of the Solution-Focused Brief Therapy model developed by Steve de Shazer and Insoo Kim Berg; and
Have knowledge of basic interviewing techniques of Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT).
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is a competency-based, collaborative psychotherapeutic approach that is both effective and time-sensitive. Although it is a relatively brief form of treatment, SFBT is capable of initiating profound change in people''s lives by helping them to resolve the most challenging and intractable problems.
The author explains the development of this clinical approach and describes the unique characteristics of the solution-focused, brief therapy model practiced by Steve de Shazer and Insoo Berg. As well as providing therapists with the tools to help patients form clear treatment goals, the author presents valuable examples of SFBT interviewing techniques.
